Joy Of Sankirtan -Mryuta Hara Prabhu ISKCON Chowpatty

2016 11 30 SB 10 87 33 Joy Of Sankirtan -Mryuta Hara Prabhu ISKCON Chowpatty SB 10.87.33 vijita-hṛṣīka-vāyubhir adānta-manas tura-gaṁ  ya iha yatanti yantum ati-lolam upāya-khidaḥ vyasana-śatānvitāḥ samavahāya guroś caraṇaṁ  vaṇija ivāja santy akṛta-karṇa-dharā jaladhau Synonyms: vijita — conquered; hṛṣīka — with senses; vāyubhiḥ — and vital air; adānta — not brought under control; manaḥ — the mind; tura-gam — (which is like) a horse; ye — those who; iha — in this world; yatanti — endeavor; yantum — to regulate; ati — very; lolam — unsteady; upāya — by their various methods of cultivation; khidaḥ — distressed; vyasana — disturbances; śata — by hundreds; anvitāḥ — joined; samavahāya — abandoning; guroḥ — of the spiritual master; caraṇam — the feet; vaṇijaḥ — merchants; iva — as if; aja — O unborn one; santi — they are; akṛta — having not taken; karṇa-dharāḥ — a helmsman; jala-dhau — on the ocean. Translation: The mind is like an impetuous horse that even persons who have regulated their senses and breath cannot control. Those in this world who try to tame the uncontrolled mind, but who abandon the feet of their spiritual master, encounter hundreds of obstacles in their cultivation of various distressful practices. O unborn Lord, they are like merchants on a boat in the ocean who have failed to employ a helmsman. Purport: To become qualified to attain love of Godhead, the mature fruit of liberation, one must first subdue the rebellious material mind. Though difficult, this can be achieved when a person replaces his addictions to sense gratification with a taste for the higher pleasures of spiritual life. But only by the favor of the representative of Godhead, the spiritual master, can one gain this higher taste. The spiritual master opens the eyes of the disciple to the wonders of the transcendental realm, as indicated in the Gāyatrī prayers by the seed mantra of divine knowledge, aiṁ. The Muṇḍaka Upaniṣad (1.2.12) states: tad-vijñānārthaṁ sa gurum evābhigacchet  samit-pāṇiḥ śrotriyaṁ brahma-niṣṭham “To understand these things properly, one must humbly approach, with firewood in hand, a spiritual master who is learned in the Vedas and firmly devoted to the Absolute Truth.” And the Kaṭha Upaniṣad (2.9) declares: naiṣā tarkeṇa matir āpaneyā  proktānyenaiva su-jñānāya preṣṭha “This realization, my dear boy, cannot be acquired by logic. It must be spoken by an exceptionally qualified spiritual master to a knowledgeable disciple.”

Certainly Uncertain

Kanpur train accident was India’s worst train tragedy in the last six years. At least 142 people were killed and over 200 suffered injuries when 14 coaches of the train derailed near Pukhrayan. People in the train were sleeping peaceful not knowing something horrific was waiting for them. Various reasons for derailment are being found out to avoid such severe accidents in future. Actually this is the nature of material world, whatever is most unexpected that only happens and we can't change this law. Does anyone had a single idea about something like this will happen...no, in fact train travel is considered as most safest amongst all means of conveyance. So uncertainty is the quality of material world. Most certain as well as uncertain thing is 'death' it's a certain but uncertain about its timings, we don't know when it's approaching. Thus it's better to be prepared in forehand. There are many people in the world who understands uncertainties occurring in the world thus they are prepared materially so in case if they die their family should not suffer the loss at least in monetary ways, they are ready with all the policies, accident insurance, term policies etc. But while thinking about future of their families in their absence they forget to think about their own future, after life. LIC or any other insurance company neither prepare you for next life nor assure your next birth, you have to think about it. It's proved that anything can happen which may take our life too thus it won't be good idea to be prepared only materially but one need to think about spiritually also. Just like to reduce uncertainties we invest a premium regularly into various policies similarly we need to invest into our spiritual account too which can help us at the time of emergencies, serious emergencies. Premium in spiritual life is very simple we just need to chant but the result is extraordinary and that is freedom from 'certainly uncertain material world'!! Article by Rupesh Gauranga Dasa ******************************* Based on SB 10.14.58 samāśritā ye pada-pallava-plavaṁ  mahat-padaṁ puṇya-yaśo murāreḥ bhavāmbudhir vatsa-padaṁ paraṁ padaṁ  padaṁ padaṁ yad vipadāṁ na teṣām ******************************* For those who have accepted the boat of the lotus feet of the Lord, who is the shelter of the cosmic manifestation and is famous as Murāri, the enemy of the Mura demon, the ocean of the material world is like the water contained in a calf’s hoof-print. Their goal is paraṁ padam, Vaikuṇṭha, the place where there are no material miseries, not the place where there is danger at every step.

Swachh Bharat but what about Swachh Mana(mind)

Swachh Bharat...what about swachh Mana(mind) Swachh Bharat Abhiyan is a national campaign by the Government of India, covering 4,041 statutory cities and towns, to clean the streets, roads and infrastructure of the country. It is India's biggest ever cleanliness drive with 3 million government employees and school and college students of India participating in this event. Swachh Bharat will be successful only if people of country do not litter it again, otherwise it will so happen that on one side group of people cleaning the city or village and others are littering there again. So this littering, spoiling tendencies of the people have to be removed first from their mind. Our surroundings are nothing but projection of our mind. If mind is contaminated we will contaminate the surrounding, if the mind is pure then we will take utmost care to keep environment pure and clean. Just like till the time corruptive proclivities doesn't go away from heart, person will again and again try for corruption although there may be serious laws. Therefore underground work has to be done first, we can't have 100 storeys building first and then foundation, else however beautiful architect we may make, it will collapse. Similarly cleaning the mind of all the unwanted thing is basis, foundation, in fact it's a goal of human life-to clean the mind and engage it in the service of the God. Gita explains 'mind can be our friend or enemy', friend will help us to rise, enemy will always pull our legs making our move towards again to bad habits (in this case littering) and because we have failed to conquer the enemy(mind) we will have to listen to it, its unhealthy demands, its contaminated desires which will make country ultimately unclean only. In conclusion swachh Bharat abhiyan can have bright future only if we first carry out 'Swachh Mana abhiyan'. Mind can be cleaned not with chemical soap or water but only when it comes in touch with most pure things, Holyname it slowly gets purified. Purified mind sees everything in relationship with the God, this earth, water, air everything thus it is very careful to protect these. If mind becomes purified then there is no need for special endeavour, propaganda or mission to keep India clean, it will happens automatically!! rupesh gauranga das

Five Elements OF Material Nature -Sahadev Prabhu ISKCON Chowpatty

2016 11 25 SB 10 87 30 Five Elements OF Material Nature -Sahadev Prabhu ISKCON Chowpatty SB 10.87.30 aparimitā dhruvās tanu-bhṛto yadi sarva-gatās  tarhi na śāsyateti niyamo dhruva netarathā ajani ca yan-mayaṁ tad avimucya niyantṛ bhavet  samam anujānatāṁ yad amataṁ mata-duṣṭatayā Synonyms: aparimitāḥ — countless; dhruvāḥ — permanent; tanu-bhṛtaḥ — the embodied living entities; yadi — if; sarva-gatāḥ — omnipresent; tarhi — then; na — not; śāsyatā — sovereignty; iti — such; niyamaḥ — rule; dhruva — O unchanging one; na — not; itarathā — otherwise; ajani — was generated; ca — and; yat-mayam — from whose substance; tat — from that; avimucya — not separating itself; niyantṛ — regulator; bhavet — must be; samam — equally present; anujānatām — of those who supposedly know; yat — which; amatam — misunderstood; mata — of what is known; duṣṭatayā — because of the imperfection. Translation: If the countless living entities were all-pervading and possessed forms that never changed, You could not possibly be their absolute ruler, O immutable one. But since they are Your localized expansions and their forms are subject to change, You do control them. Indeed, that which supplies the ingredients for the generation of something is necessarily its controller because a product never exists apart from its ingredient cause. It is simply illusion for someone to think that he knows the Supreme Lord, who is equally present in each of His expansions, since whatever knowledge one gains by material means must be imperfect. Purport: Because the conditioned soul cannot directly understand the Supreme, the Vedas commonly refer to that Supreme Truth in such impersonal terms as Brahman and oṁ tat sat. If an ordinary scholar presumes to know the confidential meaning of these symbolic references, he should be rejected as an imposter. In the words of Śrī Kena Upaniṣad (2.1), yadi manyase su-vedeti dabhram evāpi nūnaṁ tvaṁ vettha brahmaṇo rūpaṁ, yad asya tvaṁ yad asya deveṣu: “If you think you know Brahman well, then your knowledge is very meager. If you think you can identify Brahman’s form from among the demigods, indeed you know but little.” And again: yasyāmataṁ tasya mataṁ  mataṁ yasya na veda saḥ avijñātaṁ vijānatāṁ  vijñātam avijānatām “Whoever denies having any opinion of his own about the Supreme Truth is correct in his opinion, whereas one who has his own opinion about the Supreme does not know Him. He is unknown to those who claim to know Him, and can only be known by those who do not claim to know Him.” (Kena Upaniṣad 2.3)

What to do with sadness?

There are many emotions we feel throughout the day; sadness is one of them. It often sweeps across us like grey clouds on an otherwise bright day. It may be triggered by a memory, or some loss or pain inflicted on us, or by seeing the pain and suffering of others. Sadness is undesired by all of us. This video talks about 3 facets that can help us hold our ground when sadness shows up.
